The Adventures of May

Boy, it has been a long time since I’ve been so energetic. Many events going on in May that makes me jump for joy. Although the biggest excitement was that I got hired a few weeks ago and finally get to begin to get the right training for my future career. The next big thrill is the benefits that I get takes effect in May. Now, I can fix all the crooks and nooks in my wrecked body! One negative, but not really, I am getting rid of my Xbox 360. I’ve not played it in a while and I still haven’t finished a lot of games since I’ve been so active lately. Anyway, it looks like me and my boss are representing the IT department in a company fitness contest in a few weeks :D. There is also the Roc Race in Del Mar and I’m not even sure what to get mom for mother’s day haha….. It looks like I get to do some parkour again this month as well. Hopefully, I can still do some. Let’s not to forget, P90X regiment is almost over. Unfortunately, I did not keep up with the food and cardio, but I’m already liking what my May work out schedule looks like; it’s called “I need a mentality check” schedule because I’m going all out. Last, but not least, I am excited for my friends who are graduating. You people did it! *cough* Party Time *cough*

A Hike to Three Sisters Waterfalls (Part 1)

Today, I went out to the Three Sisters Waterfalls out in Cleveland Forest with my buddy, Danny, and boy was it one hell of a hike. On the way down was not too bad except the most slipperiest part. There, I literally, slid on my butt for a couple of yards and getting some good air with a large rock acting as a ramp. Even though this is the hardest part, it was one fun roller coaster ride from the wilderness. Unfortunately, my butt doesn’t agree. When we got to the waterfalls, the real fun part comes. I’ll leave this part of the detail when I get the videos up on the next post. Although the water was freezing cold, it was an awesome mini water park of the wilderness.

We also met some pretty cool people at the falls. There was some people trying to get a backpack stuck on the edge at the 2nd waterfall. One of the guys who were at the 3rd waterfall with us climbed up to the 2nd fall to aid them in getting the backpack. We were surprised at how fast he got up there, which is about probably 50 ft high with a pretty nasty set of rocks under that waterfall. We nicknamed him the Mountain Goat afterwards. Luckily, the backpack was obtained and nobody got hurt. Although, everyone there except the persistent people trying to get the backpack agreed that the backpack was not worth it. All it had in there was a towel and his lunch.

On the way back, we followed the “Mountain Goat” and his friends. Just watching him climb up the path was ridiculous because of how fast he is. When we got back to that one slippery path, me, Danny, and “Mountain Goat“‘s friends had a hard time climbing up the path. Everyone were going on all fours most of the way. A few of us slipping a little occasionally. Danny almost slipped right off if one of the guys didn’t catch him. Also note that these people are complete strangers to us and vise versa. In the end, we all made it alive watch idiots coming down the path at noon or 1pm. They will sure have one hard time on the way back since the hills and mountains will cover the sun while the sun is setting. Even worse, there were people with no water at all and this hike, you do need the water for this hike…and food even if it’s just a snack.

Overall, I give this a 5/5 for the fun and an 8/10 on difficulty. I don’t recommend some people for this though for safety reasons. However, if you are able tohike itrock climb it, it is worth it.

Project Appleseed

Project Appleseed is an activity of The Revolutionary War Veterans Association, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated to teaching every American our shared heritage and history as well as traditional rifle marksmanship skills.

For a first time rifle shooter, this program really got me from someone who miss the target to someone who hits or hits near the target. The program teaches how to shoot in prone, sitting, and standing position. The teachings also include how to properly move about in your position to get the sights/cross-hairs onto the target, calculating scope/sight adjustments, sling usage, and changing magazines without disrupting your position…much. After every shooting interval, the instructors would have you gather up and give you demonstrations, reviews, and tips. Before letting you go, the instructors would have you repeat the main points over a couple of times. Then, the exercises really drill in what you learn. If you have trouble, the instructors are more than welcomed to help you out in proper positioning, scope adjustment, and gun checks. In addition, they are a bunch of awesome wise cracks. Lunch was kind of long since there were a bunch of heritage stories. Historical, but it did drag and I do admit that it got boring at a few points.

The program is either a 1 day or 2 days event. This training program is mainly to teach women, which gives them major discounts. So feminist!, just joking. Kids get to pay a cheaper price, but the rest of us have to pay the full price unless you signed up for a RWVA membership card. Which is shooting for free until you achieve a rifleman score, this does not include range fees. However, it is better to get a rifle than to rent one from them.

The area I went was in Escondido’s Fish & Game Association. Which was pretty high in the mountains and the first day was freezing cold since we were on an open 150 yard range with barely anything over our heads. Despite the coldness, I was sick myself. However, I was getting better as the day went on, except for one point where it did get worse. Which surprises me since there were fog, some heavy winds, and drizzles.

Overall, I highly recommend you to take this program if you want to learn how to shoot a rifle or go again if you have the membership. For some of you (women and kids….and I guess the RWVA members like me as well), it is just dirt cheap to learn. More the reason to go right?

Rest is Good For You!

Just realized I have been out and active in working out for the passed 5 weeks without any or much rest. Since it is raining tomorrow and I am usually not active on rainy days. BUT! I am most likely to do something easy instead of my intense program. P90X and archery are easy enough right? Maybe I need a mentality check again…

Got Called Cupid…wtf…

Out of all the things I was called, being called “cupid” was the most unexpected names I heard. All the reason was because I went to check out an archery range yesterday. Yesterday was Valentine’s Day…

Cooking

Today, I finally cooked something edible. No, it is not eggs. For years, on and off, I would either cook or bake. I sometimes would getting the baking down, and sometimes I over do it. For the cooking, however, it was always butchered or something was missing. But finally, I am able to cook lemon pepper catfish fillets properly and not gross anyone out. Funny thing though, I still suck at making eggs. Every time I make scramble eggs, they always comes out as omelets instead….

“You Know”

So there is this person I know who talks a bunch of mumbo jumbo quite a lot and it annoys me at times. I can’t avoid 100% because we are in the same community. So today, I started to count how many times he says “you know” since I notice he says that a lot. So for the 5 times he tried to talk to me, I counted more than 17 “you know”s. It is like, he is say “you know” two to three times per sentence. That was way more than any Asians I know! As an Asian myself, I grew up with many non-English speakers and the most common words I heard from them is: “you know!” The most I hear from them would be 3-4 times a day. But this guy was off the charts. It wasn’t even 2 full hours and he hit 17+ already, “you know!”

Doctor

Today I went to Target and bought a couple of large sanitizers. A girl came up to me and asked if I was a doctor because of all the sanitizers I have in my basket. So now, I guess I should answer that I work as a doctor. But really, I just keep them in stock so I don’t have to do repeated trips…and I am actually, slightly germaphobic…

“The bad news is time flies. The good news is you’re the pilot.” -Michael Altshuler.

First off, happy late new years to everyone. Just recently, I was with my co-workers for lunch and somehow, I became the target of the conversation again. I guess it’s because I just graduated 2 months ago and living a new life with all the upcoming activities I have. Meeting new people, learning new skills, and doing the things I’ve always wanted to do…..I should say most of the things I want to do, since there are things I am unable to do. At one point my co-workers said I should have a danger sign on me somewhere, but what can I say? Its just me and the activities I always wanted to do or liked. I am so definitely looking forward to the rest of the year and the new skills I acquire this year.

Something just on the side though, a world wide EMP will make everyone happy. We might even make it pass “2012”. Just saying.
